Words of Wisdom
Today over lunch i looked around a bit at some old favorite sites of artist that i haven’t been able to get around to for some time. Todays meandering lead me to Jason Shawn Alexander’s site
There i scrolled through may posts of sketches and works in progress. Then i came across this post.
What stopped me was the image. I have seen it several times in the past and it is one of my favorites of Jason’s. What struck me about the post was what he wrote. Luck vs Hard Work. “It’s anything BUT luck that got me here.” he states.
” My father told me when I left home to pursue my dreams, but survive first. That’s always stayed with me. I’ve never understood when people will tell me, “I’m broke but what am I supposed to do, go serve coffee or be a waiter? I just can’t do that”. I have a special twitch of pity for those people.”
I took it to heart, as a challenge for me to be more focused in my “off time”. My day job is important yes, but i need to really stay active in my creative home life in order to stay sharp and continue to grow as an artist. Hopefully, this will serve as reminder to stay involved in your dreams and make them happen. It’ll take hard work to do so but you’ll thanks yourself in the end.
