Old & New Project
A commissioned Easter illustration for Old and New Project. The assigned passage was Matthew 27:15-26. In this passage the people of Jerusalem were given a choice to release a prisoner. They chose Barabbas, know in the land as a revolutionist and murder.
The concept was to play on the People’s Choice Awards. That meant portraying Barabbas with suit and tie, red carpet and the paparazzi. Hands were an iconic part in this story and play an important role in storytelling. Pilate wanted no part of the decision and washes his hands of the matter. Barabbas, a convicted murderer, had “blood on his hands.” And finally there is the crowed who cried “His blood is on us and our children’s hands.”
